Introducing: French Country Collection

In keeping with its commitment to the environment and preservation of dyeing textile arts, Aalamwaar Textiles brings forth a new product that captures the beauty and magic of Indigo in a collection called French Country.

Indigo dates back thousands of years and has been known to mankind for centuries. Across the globe, Indigo was used by Primitive cultures stretching from South America to Europe, and from Africa throughout Asia and the Far East. Indigo, a natural dye, is a plant extract with varying shades of blue. It was traded as a treasured commodity as it was rare. When chemical blue was invented, the art and the science of extracting Indigo and using it to dye fabrics was threatened.

Today there are very few who have the knowledge of how to extract and use Indigo dye. Aalamwaar Textiles has been dedicated to sustainability and social responsibility towards the environment and also to the farmers whose livelihood depends on Indigo farming.

Our new French Country bedding and pillow collection uses raw, unbleached cotton fabric that has been hand-block printed and dyed using Indigo dye. The prints are classic and have been picked from our archives of age old wooden blocks. Available in this collection are Duvets and Quilts (King, Queen, & Twin) and coordinating shams and curtains. Tie-dyed decorative pillows add some pizzazz to the collection. 

First Look: Notting Hill Collection

Decorating with fabrics from our new collection is going to be a lot of fun this Spring. The hand-block prints in AZO-Free dyes are lively heralding the Spring and Summer seasons that lay ahead. The color palette of a washed Denim blue and Buttercup yellow on a crisp white background bring in visions of the English countryside. The four patterns that are used in this collection are whimsical paisleys that are balanced with a bold stripe making them adaptable to a formal or informal setting.

The Fabrics that are offered in this collection are all 100% cotton of various weights. These fabrics can be purchased as yardage or as finished products.

Notting Hill Collection is available February 2013 in the softest cottons as Duvets & Hand-Stitched quilts in sizes Twin, Queen, and King with coordinating Shams and 12x20, 18x18 and 20x20 Decorative pillows.

HANDWOVEN SILK THROWS AND PILLOWS: Our new collection of throws and pillows are made from hand-woven silk fabric from Central India. The silk is procured from wild silk cocoons. The soft silk has slubs that create an interesting texture. The throws are in beautiful Fall colors: Cinnamon, Charcoal, Slate and Indigo and can be used as solid coordinates or layered with our bedding collections. Fabrics offered are Heavy Cotton, Light Cotton, Natural Cotton, Voile Cotton, Linen and Sheer Linen.

AMAN: This classic collection combines luxurious soft linen in subtle hues of Slate Grey. It has a
layering of a distressed Paisley print all over. A variety of textured solid and hand block printed throw pillows are offered to compliment the collection. This aged look is created by many layers of dyeing and washing that has been perfected by our talented craftspeople. The Wool Throw, a new addition is made of two layers: printed linen on one side and soft dyed wool on the other, making this a decadent yet practical blanket.

THE ANJALI COLLECTION is an offering of luxury to our customers. Soft linen, dyed in a Cinnamon shade, is perfect for the fall season or any time of year. TEA Visits Our Workshop

Recently, we were graced with a visit from the members of TEA, an expat organization here in Hyderabad. During their visit, our artisans educated TEA members about the ancient art of hand-block printing and hand-dyeing textiles. The group then had the opportunity to try out the hand-block printing process on their own. Here are some pictures from their visit!
